As part of our “Get to Know Market Street Talent” series, we introduce you to a member of our recruiting team and give you a closer look at the people who drive the success of our company. Jay Robichaud gives advice to candidates and talks about balancing work and family.
How long have you been at Market Street Talent? I joined the team in December of 2013.
What are your principle job duties? I am a senior technical recruiter responsible for locating, interviewing, and placing technical talent.
How did you first learn about the company? Chris Howgate and I met in the fall of 2013 and spoke about MST expanding. I was attracted to the fact that it was an established but evolving company rooted in the Seacoast.
What advice do you have for prospective candidates that come in? Be honest and be transparent with what is going on in your life. We’re in the middle between clients and candidates, so if you’re open and honest about opportunities presented and what you need from a position, we can figure out the rest. But if a candidate doesn’t share what he or she needs ahead of time, it’s hard to bring it up with a client after the fact. For example, I can’t really help if I’ve talked to a candidate four times and it doesn’t come up until the interview that he or she needs a large sign-on bonus.
Do you have a family? Yes, I’m married and have two children.
Top three life highlights. When I got married, had my children, and bought a house in Portsmouth.
Do you eat out often in Portsmouth? If so, where? With two kids, we mostly do take-out. If we do go out, Rudi’s is one of our staples. They’re always consistent.
What is it you’ve always wanted to try but never have? Not sky-diving. I’m afraid of heights and that scares the heck out of me. Maybe scuba diving? I’d like to try that.
If your house is burning down, what is the one non-living thing you would save? Definitely my TV.
